The late Assamese icon Zubeen Garg continues to live on through his art. Days before the release of his final film, Roi Roi Binale, his wife, Garima Saikia Garg, shared an emotional handwritten message that has left fans overwhelmed with nostalgia and sorrow.
The message, written by Zubeen on September 15, reads:
“Roi Roi Binale. Mur notun cinema. Sabole aahibo. ‘Morom’. Zubeen da.”
(“Roi Roi Binale. My new film. Please come and watch it. With love, Zubeen da.”)
Posting it on social media along with a sketch of Zubeen, Garima wrote in Assamese, “The letters you wrote on 15th September... A loving appeal to your beloved people!”
Her emotional caption further revealed her grief and longing. “Every word hits the heart, Goldie! But amidst all this, there’s burning in the empty chest. Another question — what happened on September 19? How, why? I don’t know where peace lies, but I don’t feel like breathing until I get this answer.”
Unprecedented Response to ‘Roi Roi Binale’
Zubeen’s final film, Roi Roi Binale, is set for release this Friday in Assam and is already breaking records before its premiere. All advance tickets have sold out, with theatres adding extra shows to meet the massive demand.
Some cinema halls will reportedly start screening as early as 4:45 a.m., with the last shows ending close to 2:30 a.m., reflecting the emotional connection between the late star and his fans.
Directed by Rajesh Bhuyan, the 146-minute-long film stars Zubeen as a blind musician whose journey mirrors the emotional depth and musical brilliance the singer was known for.
The film features 11 original tracks, all composed by Zubeen himself, making it a full-fledged musical experience. Produced by Zubeen Garg, Garima Saikia Garg, and Shyamantak Gautam, the film captures the essence of love, loss, and hope.
Art Imitates Life
The trailer for Roi Roi Binale offered a glimpse into Zubeen’s character — a musician lying unconscious on a beach as someone desperately tries to wake him. The haunting imagery now resonates deeply with fans, as Zubeen passed away under eerily similar circumstances.
Zubeen died in Singapore on September 19 while swimming in the sea. His untimely death at the peak of his career sent shockwaves across the music and film industries.
For Garima, Roi Roi Binale stands as both a farewell and a celebration of his artistry. She has been personally involved in the post-production and release process, ensuring that Zubeen’s vision reaches his fans exactly as he intended.
Zubeen Garg was one of the most influential artists to emerge from Northeast India. Known nationwide for his soulful voice and hit songs such as Ya Ali, he transcended regional boundaries, bringing Assamese music to mainstream attention.
Over his illustrious career, he recorded thousands of songs in multiple languages and acted in numerous films, winning hearts with his authenticity and charm.
Now, Roi Roi Binale stands as a symbolic farewell — a story of a blind musician who never stopped believing in the power of melody. Fans have already declared the film a “movement, not just a movie.”
Theatres across Assam are expected to remain packed for weeks, with fans calling it Zubeen’s “final concert on the silver screen.”
As Roi Roi Binale releases, it’s clear that Zubeen Garg’s music and memories will echo across generations — a true legend whose voice refuses to fade.
