Qatar Reveals Expansive Scholarship Initiative for 2026–27

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar has unveiled its scholarship initiative for the 2026–2027 academic year. This plan aims to introduce new educational pathways and elevate financial support to cultivate essential skills for national development.

This announcement was made public at a press conference featuring HE Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the ministry, together with other senior officials in education. The focus of the initiative revolves around four key objectives: fostering economic progression, ensuring equal chances for all, encouraging diversity and inclusion, and nurturing local talent. This aligns with the broader goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.

Dr Hareb Aljabri, Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs, emphasized that this revised program signifies a critical advancement in cultivating skilled professionals. A notable aspect is the dedicated pathway for students with disabilities, enabling them to pursue studies at international institutions with adequate support.

Furthermore, the initiative features a bridging program to assist arts students transitioning to scientific disciplines. Additionally, new scholarships have been introduced in pivotal fields, such as nuclear engineering and clinical psychology, to address urgent healthcare and environmental demands.

The scholarship framework offers placements at eminent global universities, in addition to those situated in Education City. Financial aid will differ based on the course of study, with elevated stipends available for medical and engineering disciplines. Moreover, government and internal scholarships will be modified in relation to academic performance and specialization.

Regarding postgraduate scholarships, stringent eligibility criteria have been established for government employees. Prospective applicants are required to meet educational benchmarks and gain approval from their superiors, ensuring alignment with workforce development.

Applications for scholarships at external institutions, Education City, and private universities will be accepted from July 1 to August 15. For public universities, internal scholarship applications will be open from November 15 to December 30.

The Ministry of Labor has signaled that this initiative enhances synergy between educational institutions and the employment market, particularly in the private sector. Concurrently, the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau affirmed that priority fields will encompass artificial intelligence, data science, and nuclear engineering, providing clear career paths for graduates.

This enhanced scholarship initiative aspires to equip students for forthcoming careers while contributing to Qatar’s enduring developmental ambitions.
