Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully wrapped up significant enhancements along Al Warqa’a 1 Street, spanning 7 kilometres in both directions from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to Ras Al Khor Road. This initiative is designed to boost traffic efficiency, enhance safety, and facilitate daily commutes for local residents.
In the course of the upgrade, four roundabouts have been transformed into smart signalized intersections, leading to traffic flow improvements of as much as 30 percent. These upgrades are part of RTA’s relentless efforts to elevate the performance of Dubai’s road infrastructure and enhance residents' quality of life.
The initiative also involved a thorough infrastructure refresh. RTA has implemented 6,600 metres of state-of-the-art stormwater drainage systems, installed 324 modern street-lighting fixtures, and created 111 new parking spots. Furthermore, 41,000 square metres of pedestrian pathways were developed to ensure heightened safety for both pedestrians and drivers.
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, noted that this project builds upon prior improvements completed in June 2025, which successfully connected Al Warqa’a to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road via direct access points. This effort also focused on the traffic enhancements on 13th Street in Al Warqa’a 1, extending approximately 8 kilometres, aiding residents and schools in the vicinity.
Al Shehhi emphasized RTA’s dedication to fostering comprehensive infrastructure, which encompasses roads, lighting, and drainage systems, in alignment with the expanding urban landscape and population of Dubai. These initiatives are in support of Dubai’s vision of evolving into a smart, sustainable city prioritizing residents’ happiness and quality of life.
RTA is also working on internal road improvements in Al Warqa’a 3 and Al Warqa’a 4. This includes paving roads, creating pedestrian paths, adding parking spaces, and introducing new cycling tracks to enhance connectivity and promote sustainable transport alternatives.
Moreover, RTA conducted an interactive session in October with the residents of Mirdif and Al Warqa’a, offering updates on the Dubai Metro Blue Line project while outlining traffic diversions expected during construction. This effort underscores RTA’s commitment to community involvement, transparency, and integrating public feedback into effective solutions.
