Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has given the go-ahead for the Dubai Metro Gold Line, marking the emirate's most ambitious public transport initiative.
The project, estimated at AED34 billion, boasts a fully underground metro line extending 42 kilometers and includes 18 stations, positioning it as Dubai’s first entirely subterranean metro.
The Gold Line will link with both the Red and Green Lines of Dubai Metro and integrate with Etihad Rail, bolstering transportation across the UAE.
Timeline and Vision for Development
Construction is anticipated to commence shortly, with a targeted completion date of 9 September 2032. The project aims to be delivered 30% quicker than the existing Dubai Metro Blue Line.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the new line will serve 15 significant sites across Dubai, cater to approximately 1.5 million residents, and support the transport needs of over 55 major development initiatives.
Core Route and Connectivity Features
Starting at Al Ghubaiba, the Gold Line will traverse key locations such as:
Mina Rashid
City Walk
Business Bay
Mohammed Bin Rashid City
Meydan
Al Barsha South
Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC)
Jumeirah Golf Estates
It will provide connections to:
Red Line at Business Bay and Jumeirah Golf Estates
Green Line at Al Ghubaiba
Etihad Rail at Meydan and Jumeirah Golf Estates
Impact on Transportation and Economic Growth
Expected outcomes of the project include:
Serving over 465,000 daily commuters by 2040
Reducing congestion on key routes by 23%
Eliminating more than 40 million vehicle trips each year
Expanding the metro's reach by 35%
Upon completion, the Dubai Metro system will extend from 120 km to 162 km, increasing the total number of stations from 67 to 85.
Officials project that the initiative will generate a remarkable 430% economic return over two decades by saving time, conserving fuel, reducing accident rates, and lowering carbon emissions.
Utilization of Advanced Technology and Skilled Workforce
The Gold Line will employ cutting-edge tunnel boring technologies to ensure minimal disruption for nearby residents. Moreover, Emirati professionals will lead the project, showcasing local talent in significant infrastructure advancements.
Expansion of Dubai’s Transport System
Since inception in 2009, the Dubai Metro has welcomed over 2.8 billion passengers, with 295 million rides recorded in 2025, reflecting the growing public transport trend.
The Gold Line is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Dubai, furthering its ambition to emerge as one of the premier global cities for living.
