David Beckham received a knighthood from King Charles III in Berkshire in recognition of his long-standing contributions to football and his charitable activities across Britain and internationally. The investiture formalised an honor that acknowledges both sporting achievement and social engagement.
Beckham attended the ceremony in a tailored three-piece suit by his wife, Victoria Beckham, and was accompanied by his parents, Ted and Sandra. The accolade marks a notable milestone in a career that has moved beyond club success to wider public service.
Now a co-owner of Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami, Beckham remains best known for his formative years at Manchester United. He debuted for the first team in 1992 at 17 and, during his time at Old Trafford, collected six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, two FA Charity Shields and the 1999 UEFA Champions League as part of United’s celebrated treble.
Beckham also spent four seasons with Real Madrid, concluding his spell in Spain with a La Liga title. His professional trajectory — marked by technical ability, discipline and leadership — helped establish him as an internationally recognised figure in the sport.
On receiving the honour, Beckham said he felt deeply proud, noting the award recognised not only his playing career but also his voluntary work. He emphasised that his charity commitments are personal endeavours driven by a desire to make a difference for children and communities.
He added that while his domestic trophies remain important, the knighthood occupies a singular place among his achievements and reflects the broader impact of his off-field endeavours.
Beckham made his England debut on 1 September 1996 at 21, later captaining the national side for six years and earning 58 caps. His international service and leadership have left a lasting imprint on English football.
The knighthood cements Beckham’s dual legacy as a decorated player and a prominent philanthropist, underscoring the role high-profile athletes can play in public life beyond sport.
