Good news for people who use the free version of ChatGPT! A feature called the memory boost, which was only for Pro users before, is now available for free users too. This feature started in April and helps ChatGPT remember your likes and interests better. Because of this, ChatGPT can give you answers that fit you more closely. It makes ChatGPT more helpful when you want to write, learn, get advice, and more.
OpenAI shared this news on X (which used to be called Twitter). They said, “We are starting to give free users a simple version of the memory feature. Now, ChatGPT looks at your recent chats to give you more personal answers.”
If you want to try this, just ask ChatGPT, “Describe me based on our chats.” Keep in mind that it will not remember chats from a long time ago, like six months back, but it will remember your recent talks.
If you don’t want ChatGPT to remember your chats, OpenAI lets you turn off this memory feature. Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI, said on X, “You can turn off memory completely or choose not to save it. Also, you can use temporary chats if you don’t want the memory feature to keep your information.”
To turn off memory, go to Settings, then Personalisation, and then Memory. From there, you can switch off memory so ChatGPT will not save any new information from your chats. You can also check what it has saved and delete those if you want.
It’s important to know that ChatGPT has had memory before, but now it has been improved to work better.
OpenAI Also Improves Codex, Its Coding Helper
OpenAI has made a big update to Codex, the coding assistant that helps with writing computer code. Before, Codex was only available for Enterprise, Team, or Pro users. Now, ChatGPT Plus users can use Codex too. This means more people, including small developers and teams, can get help with coding.
The best new thing is that Codex can now use the internet while helping with code. This means it can install software packages, work with test environments, and run tests that need online information. But to keep things safe, the internet access is turned off by default. Users can turn it on themselves and choose which websites Codex can visit and what actions it can take.
OpenAI is watching closely for any misuse. Sometimes bad people try to trick Codex into doing things it should not. OpenAI wants to keep Codex safe and reliable for everyone.
