Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the renowned long-distance triathlon, Challenge Sir Bani Yas, is scheduled to return for its second edition from 31 January to 1 February 2026.
Coordinated by ADNEC Group, part of Modon, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Challenge Family, this event promises a richer and more engaging experience for athletes, families, and spectators alike.
Following a successful inaugural event in early 2025, which saw participation from over 3,000 athletes across 40 nations, organizers are determined to elevate the experience even further in 2026. Improvements will feature enhanced race logistics, tailored race-weekend packages, and a more athlete-friendly racing schedule, solidifying this event's status among the world's most unique triathlon competitions.
For the first time, the ADNEC Group is introducing cruise ship accommodations to enhance comfort and convenience. Athletes and their families will have the opportunity to stay on the Celestyal Discovery, which offers modern cabins, diverse dining options, entertainment, and direct access to the race site. This ship will also house technical support teams, creating one of the largest race villages in the region.
His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, remarked that this event signifies Abu Dhabi’s dedication to establishing itself as a premier global sports destination. He expressed that the triathlon offers both professional and amateur participants the unique chance to compete amidst the natural beauty of Sir Bani Yas Island while encouraging healthy lifestyles and community involvement.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Group CEO of ADNEC Group, articulated that this event aligns perfectly with their objective of bolstering Abu Dhabi's international sports initiatives. He highlighted that Challenge Sir Bani Yas not only promotes sports but also showcases the tourism potential of the Al Dhafra region, fostering sustainable growth in both sectors.
In 2026, Challenge Sir Bani Yas will present various race formats, including the Long Distance Triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km cycle, 42.2km run), Middle Distance Triathlon (1.9km swim, 96km cycle, 21.1km run), and Olympic Distance Triathlon (1.5km swim, 45km cycle, 10km run).
In line with the UAE’s Year of Family initiative in 2026, community and family races are set to return, featuring accessible swim, cycling, and running events catering to participants of all ages and abilities. The event will continue to embrace its festive atmosphere, with activities including wildlife safaris, kayaking, snorkeling, cultural excursions, and a vibrant Fan Village, enhancing the overall experience.
