Sheikha Shamma Engages with MBZUAI Leader to Enhance AI for Climate Initiatives

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, who leads Frontier25 and The Climate Tribe, convened with Professor Eric Xing, the President of Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI). Their discussion aimed at reinforcing collaboration on leveraging artificial intelligence for climate initiatives.

The agenda highlighted translating AI innovations into actionable climate solutions while reviewing advancements in sustainability, climate research, and AI technology.

The pair also examined K2 Think, an open-source AI reasoning platform introduced by MBZUAI and G42 in September, recognized as a significant advancement in AI within the UAE, comparable to leading global models.

Recently, MBZUAI has introduced several initiatives concentrating on climate dynamics. This includes a new weather forecasting training program developed with the University of Chicago aimed at aiding governments in delivering localized weather insights to support farmers. The university also collaborates as a founding knowledge partner of the United Nations Development Programme’s AI for Sustainable Development Platform (AI4SDP), established following COP28.

In October, Sheikha Shamma took the lead at the World Economic Forum Young Global Leaders event, part of the From Heritage to Horizon program, featuring sessions at MBZUAI focusing on how AI can forge a sustainable future.

Sheikha Shamma emphasized that AI is reshaping our understanding of the planet and crafting protective solutions. She reaffirmed the importance of channeling the expertise and innovations from MBZUAI to benefit humanity and amplify climate action efforts.
