Actor Anupam Kher recently shared an emotional account of visiting the late actor Satish Shah’s widow, Madhu Shah, describing the experience as “heartbreaking and deeply moving.” Returning from Switzerland, Anupam met Madhu at her residence and later opened up about the visit through an Instagram video and heartfelt caption.
In his post, Anupam revealed that Madhu, who is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, experiences memory lapses in phases — moments when she remembers that her husband is no more, and others when that painful truth slips away.
“I was nervous before meeting her,” Anupam admitted in Hindi. “I didn’t know what she remembered or if I should even bring up Satish’s name. Before leaving, I promised her I would keep visiting.”
An Emotional Reunion
Anupam shared that Madhu initially recognised him and thanked him for visiting. “Then, she drifted in and out of memory. I didn’t know whether to talk about Satish’s death. I was scared it would trigger sadness,” he said.
At one point, Madhu asked about Anupam’s wife, actor Kirron Kher, and for a brief moment remembered Satish’s passing. “She said, ‘chala gaya (he has gone),’ and tears welled up in her eyes. Then she forgot again,” Anupam recalled.
He added that the two sang songs together — something Madhu enjoys — and she insisted he visit again to eat food cooked by her. “When I was leaving, she said, ‘Aap aana agli baar khana khaane, but he may not be there.’ I somehow held back my tears, but after stepping out, I couldn’t control myself,” Anupam said, urging people to value their loved ones. “Life is fragile. Don’t have regrets later on.”
Fond Memories and Shared Bond
Anupam Kher and Satish Shah shared a long professional and personal relationship, having worked together in several popular films including Judwaa and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. In the shared video, Madhu can be seen warmly conversing with Anupam and complimenting Kirron’s saree collection, while Anupam tells her, “Satish was lucky to have you as his wife.”
Satish Shah’s Demise
Veteran actor Satish Shah passed away on October 25 at the age of 74 after suffering a heart attack at his Mumbai residence during lunch. Although he had undergone a kidney transplant a few months earlier, his death was caused by cardiac arrest.
His funeral was held in Mumbai on Sunday, followed by a prayer meet attended by close friends, family, and industry colleagues.
