Anthony Joshua Released from Hospital Following Fatal Car Accident

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Lagos, Nigeria – Anthony Joshua, the former heavyweight boxing champion, has been released from the hospital after being involved in a severe car accident in southwestern Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

The incident took place on a busy road linking Lagos and Ibadan on Monday when Joshua's SUV collided with a parked truck. Authorities report that Joshua sustained only minor injuries, while his strength coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, sadly did not survive the crash.

Initial inquiries by the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) indicated that the vehicle was speeding and suffered a tyre blowout before the accident occurred. The driver, who has also been discharged from the hospital, is under investigation for potential reckless driving.

In a joint statement released by officials from Lagos and Ogun states, it was confirmed that Joshua is "clinically fit to recuperate at home," following his discharge late on Wednesday. The boxer, visibly heartbroken over the loss of his friends, visited a funeral home with his mother where preparations for Ghami and Ayodele's repatriation are underway.

Joshua, a British citizen of Nigerian heritage, was in Nigeria when the tragic event occurred. Images of the severely damaged black SUV involved in the incident have been released by police.

In recent events, Joshua achieved a victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami in December 2025 and is rumored to be considering a match against fellow former champion Tyson Fury. Prior to his fight with Paul, Joshua faced a knockout defeat against Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
