Abhishek Bachchan hits back at Filmfare award allegations

Post by : Mina Rahman

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has once again shown that he knows how to respond with grace and confidence. The actor, who recently bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in I Want to Talk, took to social media to set the record straight after a user accused him of buying awards and using PR to stay relevant in the industry.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday when a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared a picture of Abhishek from the Filmfare Awards ceremony and alleged that his recognition was the result of aggressive PR and paid publicity. The post read, “As much as he's an affable guy, I hate to say that professionally #AbhishekBachchan is the prime example of how buying awards and aggressive PR pushes can keep you relevant... even if you don't have a single SOLO blockbuster in your career.”

The same user went on to claim that it was “hilarious” for Abhishek to win the Best Actor award for I Want To Talk, a film which “no one saw apart from paid reviewers.” He ended his post suggesting that there were “far better actors” who deserved the recognition more.

Rather than ignoring the comment, Abhishek chose to respond directly — and with dignity. In a measured reply, he wrote, “Just to set the record straight. Never has any award been bought or aggressive PR been done by me. Just hard work, blood, sweat and tears. But, doubt you’ll believe anything I say or write. So…. Best way to shut you up is by working even harder so that you don’t ever doubt any achievement that will happen in the future, again. I will prove you wrong! With all due respect and ‘affability’.”

His reply quickly went viral, drawing praise from fans and fellow industry members alike. Many users applauded Abhishek’s composure and humility, pointing out that the actor has consistently delivered strong performances even if his box-office numbers haven’t always matched his acting calibre.

One X user wrote, “For a lot of folks, box-office collection is the main driver. But people who understand real art know that it is not the only parameter to judge an artist.” Another commented, “Whoever saw that movie will have not even a pinch of hesitation or concern seeing you win that award.”

Fans flooded the comments section, listing some of Abhishek’s most memorable performances — including his roles in Guru, Yuva, Manmarziyaan, and Bob Biswas — as proof of his acting range. Many also highlighted that he continues to experiment with different genres, balancing commercial films with performance-driven stories.

The Filmfare win for I Want to Talk marks a significant moment for Abhishek, who has often faced scrutiny and comparisons owing to his lineage as the son of legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Over the years, he has carved out a distinct identity for himself through persistence and versatility.

In I Want to Talk, Abhishek delivered a deeply emotional performance that resonated with critics who praised his nuanced portrayal of a man battling inner turmoil and isolation. The film may not have had a massive box-office footprint, but it was widely appreciated in film circuits for its storytelling and sensitive handling of complex themes.

Industry watchers believe that Abhishek’s response reflects a broader sentiment among actors who feel that social media often overlooks artistic merit in favour of hype and numbers. His dignified rebuttal is being seen as a message to critics and audiences alike — that awards and recognition should not be measured solely by box-office performance or visibility.

This year has been particularly busy for the actor. Apart from I Want to Talk, Abhishek appeared in Be Happy, Housefull 5, and Kaalidhar Laapata, a thriller that premiered on Zee5. Each project showcased a different facet of his acting skills, from comedy and family drama to intense emotional storytelling.

Looking ahead, Abhishek is set to appear in Siddharth Anand’s highly anticipated film King, which also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan. The collaboration has generated significant buzz as it brings together two prominent film families in one project.

Despite the noise surrounding him, Abhishek Bachchan’s approach remains consistent — focusing on his work and letting his performances speak for themselves. His response to online criticism reflects the maturity of an artist who has grown comfortable in his own skin, undeterred by external validation.

As social media debates continue, one thing remains clear: Abhishek Bachchan’s journey in Bollywood is far from over. With a mix of humility, perseverance, and steady evolution, he continues to earn respect not just for his performances but also for his grace under fire.
