UEFA has officially announced that Munich’s Allianz Arena will host the 2028 Champions League final. The decision came as part of UEFA’s confirmation of bids from its member associations. Munich stood as the only confirmed bid for 2028, while Wembley and Barcelona’s Camp Nou emerged as rivals for the 2029 edition.
Hopes of a Champions League final in New York remain on hold. UEFA clarified that such a move is not planned until at least 2030. The organization said all bids for 2028 and 2029 remain non-binding until final dossiers are submitted by June 10, with the official decision to be made in September 2026.
Camp Nou’s major renovation is nearing completion and will raise its capacity to 105,000 seats, making it the largest stadium in Europe. The venue has not hosted a Champions League final since 1999, when Manchester United stunned Bayern Munich with two late goals. Munich, meanwhile, recently hosted the 2023 final, and Wembley hosted the 2024 showpiece.
UEFA’s committee will also confirm venues for other European club finals, including the Europa League and Conference League for 2028 and 2029. The 2025 Champions League final will take place at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, while Atletico Madrid’s stadium will host the 2027 edition.
Among the venues competing for Europa League finals are Juventus Stadium in Turin, Bucharest’s National Stadium, and either Lyon’s or Paris’ Parc des Princes in France. Juventus Stadium, which seats around 41,000 fans, last hosted a major European final in 2014.
Several new stadiums are entering the competition, including Serbia’s new national arena in Belgrade and Turkey’s upcoming Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadium. Finland’s Helsinki Olympic Stadium has also submitted interest for 2029, while Lille and Poland’s Arena Gdansk are candidates for multiple finals.
For the UEFA Women’s Champions League final, Lyon’s home ground and Basel’s St. Jakob Park have submitted proposals. Additional contenders include Athletic Bilbao and Galatasaray’s stadium for 2028, as well as Dublin and Cardiff for 2029. UEFA’s Executive Committee is set to make its final selections next year.
