South Africa Dominate Pakistan in First T20 Win at Rawalpindi

Post by : Mara Rahim

South Africa made a strong start to their three-match T20 series against Pakistan by claiming a commanding 55-run victory in the first match held in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. The visitors delivered an all-round performance with both bat and ball, setting a high total and then defending it comfortably. This win gave South Africa a 1-0 lead in the series and a boost of confidence ahead of the next two matches in Lahore.

Opening batsman Reeza Hendricks played a key role in South Africa’s win with a well-composed 60 runs off 40 balls. His innings was filled with elegant drives, well-timed shots, and smart running between the wickets. Hendricks provided a steady start and built early momentum alongside Quinton de Kock, who made a quick 23 from 13 balls. Their opening stand gave South Africa a strong platform to build a big total.

Debutant Tony de Zorzi marked his first T20 international appearance with an exciting 33 from just 16 balls. His confident stroke play and fearless approach added valuable runs during the middle overs. All-rounder George Linde also contributed with a handy 36 off 22 deliveries, ensuring that South Africa maintained their aggressive tempo. Despite losing wickets at intervals, the visitors reached a solid total of 194 for nine.

For Pakistan, left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz was the most effective bowler. He finished with figures of 3 for 26 from his four overs, controlling the flow of runs in the middle overs. However, the rest of the Pakistan bowling attack lacked consistency and allowed too many boundary opportunities. Their inability to maintain pressure enabled South Africa to post a total close to 200, which proved too much in the end.

In the second innings, South Africa’s fast bowler Corbin Bosch produced a career-best spell to dismantle Pakistan’s chase. Bowling with control and precision, Bosch claimed four wickets for just 14 runs. His accurate line and sharp pace variations made it difficult for Pakistani batters to settle. He dismissed captain Babar Azam for a two-ball duck, a crucial early breakthrough that put Pakistan on the back foot.

Pakistan’s batting struggled throughout the innings, failing to recover from early setbacks. Opener Saim Ayub top-scored with 37 from 28 balls, trying to keep the chase alive. However, no other batsman was able to build a strong partnership or counter South Africa’s disciplined bowling. Middle-order wickets fell at regular intervals, leaving Pakistan far behind the required run rate.

George Linde, who had earlier contributed with the bat, played a key role with the ball as well. Despite being expensive early on, he fought back strongly to take three wickets for 31 runs. His breakthroughs in the middle overs ensured Pakistan never regained momentum. Supported by tight fielding and accurate bowling from his teammates, Linde helped South Africa dismiss Pakistan for just 139 runs.

With this comprehensive win, South Africa took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series. The team’s balanced performance in all departments reflected their preparation and growing confidence. Reeza Hendricks’ consistency at the top, Bosch’s match-winning spell, and contributions from several players showed South Africa’s depth and adaptability.

The series now moves to Lahore, where the second T20 will be played on Friday, followed by the final game on Saturday. Pakistan will be looking to bounce back and level the series, while South Africa will aim to maintain their momentum and clinch the series early. If the visitors continue their disciplined and confident approach, they could secure a memorable series victory on Pakistani soil.
