Celebrating Emirati Artistic Innovation at Xposure 2026

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Curiosity lies at the heart of Emirati tradition, steering generations toward exploration of diverse landscapes, seas, and cultures. Today, this inquisitive spirit manifests in photography, where Emirati artists merge science, nature, and emotion to weave compelling visual tales.

At the 10th Xposure International Photography Festival, three Emirati photographers will showcase remarkable works that span astronomy, micro-science, and conceptual art. Their unique viewpoints illustrate a new generation that confidently intertwines tradition with innovation.

Stargazing Perspective: Yousuf Al Qasimi

Yousuf Al Qasimi, a night-sky photographer and a member of the Emirates Astronomical Society, captures stunning visuals of nebulae, star clusters, and meteor showers. His astrophotography rekindles humanity’s timeless bond with the cosmos. Additionally, he focuses on extreme weather photography, documenting dramatic lightning storms and supercells. His exhibit, The Sky – Within and Beyond, situated in the Nature zone, provides viewers an intense glimpse into the sky’s aesthetic and force.

The World of the Tiny: Rashed Alsumaiti

Rashed Alsumaiti invites audiences into hidden realms through advanced micro-photography. His artistry transforms everyday materials, like salt and vitamin C crystals, into mesmerizing landscapes and figures. Featured in the Fine Art and Creative Expression zone, his work, Dancing Crystals, blurs the lines between artistic expression and scientific exploration. Since he began with landscape photography in 2009, Alsumaiti has continually delved into nature’s intricate details, experimenting with both scale and perspective.

Exploring Emotions: Ghada Ahmed Al Qasimi

Ghada Ahmed Al Qasimi utilizes photography to delve into themes of memory, silence, and nuanced emotions. Her series Silence, featured in the Fine Art zone, encourages personal contemplation through its delicate composition and repetition. The images resonate with notions of presence and absence, illustrating the reflective essence of contemporary Emirati art.

Arts Meets Science: A Visionary Emirati Movement

Together, these photographers represent a cultural evolution where heritage fuels creativity, and scientific inquiry enriches artistic expression. The Xposure 2026 festival, themed A Decade of Visual Storytelling, will take place from January 29 to February 4 at Aljada, Sharjah, serving as a platform for both Emirati and international photographers to share their narratives through visuals.
