A tense hostage situation unfolded inside a shopping mall in Hong Kong’s Tuen Mun district when a man armed with a knife threatened people, forcing police to take urgent action. The incident caused panic among shoppers and staff before officers shot and injured the suspect to bring the situation under control.

According to police, the man entered the mall carrying a knife and began acting aggressively. At least one person was held hostage, raising serious safety concerns. Emergency calls were made, and police officers quickly arrived at the scene to prevent further harm.

Officers tried to calm the suspect and asked him to surrender peacefully. However, the situation remained dangerous, and police said the man continued to pose a serious threat to others. When negotiations failed and the risk increased, officers opened fire to stop him.

The suspect was injured and immediately taken to a hospital under police guard. The hostage was rescued and also received medical attention. Authorities have not released full details about the suspect’s condition but said there were no reports of deaths.

The mall was evacuated as a safety measure, and parts of the area were sealed off while police carried out their investigation. Witnesses described scenes of fear and confusion as people rushed to leave the building.

Police said the use of force was necessary to protect lives. An internal review will be conducted, following standard procedure, to assess how the incident was handled.

This incident has raised concerns about public safety and mental health support, as similar cases have occurred in crowded places in recent years. Authorities urged the public to stay calm and follow police instructions during emergencies.
