Iran is experiencing one of its most serious waves of protests in decades, and many fear that the real number of deaths is far higher than official or outside estimates suggest. The situation is worsened by widespread internet blackouts, which make it very hard to confirm what is happening across the country.
The unrest began in late December 2025 due to deep economic problems, including rising prices and the declining value of the Iranian currency. What started as local protests soon spread nationwide, with people demanding political change and an end to strict government control.
