The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reportedly conducted a major military operation in southern Lebanon targeting underground tunnel systems linked to Hezbollah. According to reports, around 450 tons of explosives were used to destroy a wide network of tunnels that Israel claims were being used for military movement, weapon storage, and cross-border operations.
The operation is said to be part of ongoing efforts by Israel to weaken Hezbollah’s infrastructure near the border and enhance security in northern regions. The destroyed tunnel system was believed to be a key part of Hezbollah’s underground strategy, allowing movement of fighters and equipment while avoiding aerial surveillance.
The large-scale destruction has further increased tensions in the region, where Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in frequent cross-border clashes. Lebanese authorities and regional observers have expressed concern over the intensity of the strikes and their possible impact on nearby civilian areas.
Experts note that tunnel warfare has become a significant element in modern conflicts in the Middle East, making underground infrastructure a major target during military operations. The situation remains highly sensitive, with fears of further escalation if hostilities continue.
