Huge Fires and Blasts Reported Near Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport as Iran-Israel War Intensifies

Post by : Saif Nasser

Large explosions and intense fires were reported near Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran after Israeli forces launched a fresh wave of airstrikes targeting sites across the Iranian capital. The incident is part of the rapidly escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, which has already spread across several countries in the Middle East.

According to reports and videos circulating on social media, huge flames and thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising from the area around the airport shortly after the strikes. Witnesses described hearing multiple loud explosions, followed by fires that appeared to engulf parts of the airport complex and nearby facilities.

Mehrabad Airport is one of Tehran’s main aviation hubs and primarily handles domestic flights within Iran. Because of its location inside the capital and its proximity to military infrastructure, the airport has strategic importance and has previously been targeted during military confrontations.

Reports indicate that some aircraft may have been damaged or caught fire during the blasts, with images showing planes burning on the tarmac while emergency crews attempted to control the flames. Iranian media confirmed that explosions occurred in western parts of Tehran, including areas near the airport, as Israel launched what it described as a “broad-scale wave of strikes” on targets in the capital.

The airstrikes are believed to be part of a wider military campaign against Iranian infrastructure and command centers. Israeli officials have said the strikes are aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities and preventing further missile attacks against Israeli cities.

The conflict between Iran and Israel entered a new and dangerous phase in late February 2026 when a coordinated wave of strikes targeted key Iranian leadership and military sites in Tehran. That operation triggered a series of retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Iran against Israeli territory and allied regional targets.

Since then, both sides have continued exchanging strikes. Iranian missiles have reportedly targeted cities in Israel, while Israeli air forces have carried out repeated attacks on Iranian military facilities, infrastructure, and strategic locations. The growing number of strikes has raised concerns about a wider regional war that could involve additional countries across the Middle East.

The latest explosions at Mehrabad Airport have added to fears that critical infrastructure and transportation hubs could become frequent targets as the conflict intensifies. Airports, oil facilities, military bases, and communication centers are considered high-value strategic locations during wartime operations.

Residents in Tehran reported a night of fear and uncertainty as the blasts echoed across the city. Many people rushed indoors or sought safer locations as air defense systems were activated and emergency sirens sounded in several districts.

Authorities are still assessing the full extent of the damage at the airport and surrounding areas. Information about casualties or the exact targets struck remains limited, and officials have not yet released a detailed damage report.

International leaders and global organizations are closely monitoring the situation as the conflict continues to expand. Many governments have called for restraint and urged both sides to avoid attacks that could further endanger civilians or destabilize the region.
