BREAKING NEWS: India’s Worst Aviation Tragedy
Air India Flight AI‑171, a Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed just 30 seconds after takeoff, killing 241 passengers and 28–30 civilians on the ground.
The aircraft struck the doctors’ hostel at BJ Medical College in Meghani Nagar, igniting a massive fire and injuring over 60 people.
Among the 242 on board were:
169 Indian nationals
53 British citizens
7 Portuguese nationals
1 Canadian
Including 11 children and infants.
Tragically, only one survivor has been confirmed: Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British-Indian seated in 11A.
A Mayday call was made shortly after takeoff, citing a possible engine failure or loss of thrust.
DNA testing is underway to identify victims.
One black box has been recovered; search continues for the second.
This marks the first fatal crash involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner since its introduction in 2011.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the crash “heartbreaking beyond words.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles also expressed deep condolences.
The Tata Group has pledged ₹1 crore compensation per victim.
An international investigation is underway, led by India’s DGCA, AAIB (India and UK), the US NTSB, Boeing, and GE Aerospace.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this tragic time.
