Abu Dhabi, UAE — His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has officially directed the creation of the Community-Managed Virtual Authority. This groundbreaking initiative is inspired by the vision of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed, and aims to enhance the role of skilled individuals in shaping the nation’s future.
Launched in coincidence with the conclusion of the Year of Community, the new authority introduces an innovative governance model centered on community participation. For the first time, qualified members of the UAE community will entirely oversee the management of a public authority. Leadership roles, including the Director General and team members, will shift periodically, with each tasked to devise impactful and sustainable solutions for the nation and its people.
This initiative mirrors the UAE President’s broader vision of empowering individuals, leveraging their talents, and investing in human capital to address society’s evolving needs. It aligns with the UAE Centennial 2071 vision, which stresses human development, innovation, and establishing the UAE as a global leader in future governmental frameworks.
The Community-Managed Virtual Authority adopts a dynamic appointment process based on transparent criteria such as expertise, competency, and ability to contribute effectively. Rotating leadership ensures a continuous influx of innovative ideas and knowledge exchange, bolstering community involvement and cultivating a culture of shared responsibility.
The authority aims to attract a varied mix of Emiratis — including professionals, academics, youth, entrepreneurs, and retirees — to engage in a rotating capacity. This diversity encourages intergenerational exchange and utilizes the full spectrum of community skills for national growth.
The core mandate concentrates on crafting innovative, actionable initiatives addressing community needs, enhancing social cohesion, improving quality of life, and promoting sustainable development. Operations adhere to transparent frameworks and policies which ensure continuity and momentum despite shifts in leadership.
By aligning with national strategies and priorities, the authority fortifies public trust in participatory governance. It serves as a global benchmark for community-driven governmental innovation, merging administrative flexibility with direct investment in human capital.
The launch signifies a lasting legacy of the Year of Community, embedding its ‘Hand in Hand’ ethos into a structured, permanent framework. This model converts temporary initiatives into a sustainable, people-oriented governance system that empowers the community to share responsibility and spearhead solutions for the nation’s advancement.
