In a significant initiative aimed at enhancing local employment prospects, Thailand’s Ministry of Labour has inaugurated an extensive job fair in Surin Province. Named the “JOB FAIR @ Surin: Great Jobs in My Hometown”, this event has attracted more than 50 prominent companies eager to fill over 5,000 job openings across various sectors.
The inauguration, led by Chulaphan Amornvivat, took place at Lumpini Grand Hall in Surin. It saw participation from senior officials from the Ministry of Labour, as well as local government representatives and educational institutions, aiming to forge direct connections between employers and job seekers, particularly for recent graduates.
As stated by the Labour Ministry, this fair targets diverse communities including fresh graduates, individuals seeking new careers, and those from vulnerable groups. The government underscored Surin’s expanding economic opportunities in agriculture, tourism, services, and food processing, projected to generate more jobs in the near future.
Minister Chulaphan noted that Thailand's labour landscape is rapidly adapting due to the digital economy's influence. Today's industries prioritize candidates with technology expertise, language skills, and professional qualifications over conventional labour skills. Consequently, the government is enhancing its focus on training and re-training initiatives to equip workers for future market needs.
This two-day event also featured a variety of career development activities, including practical training for 25 independent professions, virtual reality learning opportunities, consultations for overseas employment, and educational programs from 11 institutions. Organizers expressed hopes that it would empower youth to explore contemporary career avenues and entrepreneurial ventures.
Attendees had the chance to attend workshops on modern careers, engage directly with employers for interviews, and seek career advice from government officials. The fair also spotlighted OTOP products, local business offerings, and affordable goods backed by governmental support to foster grassroots economic advancement.
Officials indicated that this event plays a crucial role in lowering the costs associated with job searching and improving employment access for those residing in less urbanized areas. There is optimism that such initiatives will enhance local economies and curb migration trends towards larger cities.
The Labour Ministry affirmed that this event embodies the broader national goal of enhancing employment quality, boosting workforce competitiveness, and fostering sustainable economic growth throughout Thailand’s regional provinces.
