In a recent leadership forum at the University of Cambridge, Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan underscored the pressing need for enhanced collaboration, innovation, and impactful climate action.
Hosted at Robinson College during the Sustainability Leadership Alumni Insight Sharing Day, the session featured a profound discussion between Sheikha Shamma and Lindsay Hooper, the CEO of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, focusing on effective climate leadership and the path ahead for sustainability.
Sheikha Shamma emphasized the critical importance of advancing climate solutions rapidly, not just in the UAE but throughout the region. She advocated for the swift expansion of existing solutions while urging the removal of barriers to foster innovation aligned with long-term sustainability objectives.
Moreover, she highlighted the necessity of building a cohesive sustainability ecosystem where environmental initiatives are integrated within organizations rather than treated merely as checklists.
On the topic of global collaboration, she noted that despite increasing divisions worldwide, nations and organizations must collaborate to forge a better future for generations ahead. She remarked that the responsibility for making a difference lies with everyone.
Sheikha Shamma advocated for the idea that climate leadership isn't confined to professionals in climate-focused organizations. She encouraged individuals from all fields to incorporate climate awareness and collaborative efforts into their professional environments.
Noting the cross-sectoral impact of climate issues, she stressed that interdisciplinary cooperation is vital, asserting that those who employ systems thinking and sustainability in their careers can foster significant change.
A prominent figure in sustainability, Sheikha Shamma serves as the President and CEO of Frontier25 and The Climate Tribe, in addition to her roles as Chairwoman of Alliances for Global Sustainability, RESET MENA, and Aurora50.
Sheikha Shamma holds a Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership and an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies, both from the University of Cambridge.
