On Wednesday, Nvidia revealed impressive performance metrics indicating that its newest artificial intelligence (AI) server can achieve speeds up to ten times faster while operating on advanced models. This update notably enhances performance with two significant Chinese AI architectures, as reported by Reuters. The announcement comes amid a swiftly evolving global AI landscape. Although Nvidia remains at the forefront of manufacturing robust hardware for AI training, its competitors are intensifying efforts to match its prowess in deploying AI models to millions worldwide.
Nvidia's latest findings spotlight the Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) technique, a cutting-edge AI strategy garnering significant attention. MoE systems break down a user’s inquiry into minor tasks, distributing them among various specialist "experts" within the model, promoting swifter and more effective processing. This approach gained tremendous recognition following the debut of DeepSeek’s powerful open-source model in early 2025, which demonstrated significantly reduced training requirements on Nvidia hardware compared to the majority of AI systems.
In the wake of DeepSeek's achievements, leading AI entities such as OpenAI, France’s Mistral, and China’s Moonshot AI have begun leveraging the MoE framework. Notably, Moonshot AI released its acclaimed Kimi K2 Thinking model in July, fueling further interest in MoE-based innovations.
With a burgeoning shift towards MoE models, Nvidia aims to underscore the critical role its hardware plays not just in training expansive models but also in effectively managing them at scale. Company representatives state that the latest AI server integrates 72 high-performance Nvidia chips linked by ultrafast data connections. Nvidia claims this configuration boosts the performance of Moonshot’s Kimi K2 Thinking model by nearly tenfold compared to previous Nvidia servers, with similar improvements observed in DeepSeek’s models.
According to Nvidia, the significant speed enhancements stem from two primary factors:
The capacity to merge numerous chips into one powerful system
The exceptionally rapid communication paths between the chips
Nvidia asserts that these advantages continue to provide it with a competitive edge in the ever-evolving AI hardware arena.
In the meantime, rival firms like AMD are advancing their own technologies. AMD is developing a new multi-chip AI server featuring a design akin to Nvidia’s, projected for release next year, intensifying the competitive landscape in AI infrastructure.
In a noteworthy development, Amazon Web Services (AWS) declared it will implement Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion technology in its forthcoming AI chip, dubbed Trainium4. NVLink stands as one of Nvidia’s crucial innovations, facilitating superfast connections among processors, thereby enabling seamless execution of extensive AI workloads.
AWS further disclosed that clients will soon benefit from exclusive “AI Factories” within its data centers, offering speedy and secure AI infrastructure tailored for substantial AI undertakings. As more partners, including Intel and Qualcomm, integrate NVLink, Nvidia’s footprint within the AI domain continues to broaden.
