England has confirmed that fast bowler Jofra Archer will be part of its provisional 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka this February. Although he is currently managing a left side strain sustained during the third Ashes Test in Adelaide, Archer's inclusion in the line-up, led by captain Harry Brook, highlights the team's confidence in him.
On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Archer would pursue rehabilitation under the care of the England medical team. However, this injury means he will not participate in the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka beginning January 22, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is.
Archer had to withdraw from the fourth Ashes Test in Melbourne, a match in which England triumphed by four wickets within two days. His absence was notable as he had been a standout performer in the series, claiming nine wickets with an impressive average of 27.11, including a memorable 5/53 in Adelaide. He also showcased his batting prowess with a maiden Test half-century, contributing 102 runs in that outing.
Despite his relative inexperience in T20 cricket with just 21 matches played, Archer’s selection underscores the selectors' trust in his skills. Alongside him, uncapped pacer Joshua Tongue has been added to the provisional T20 World Cup squad, having made a mark with his consistent performances, including leading wicket-taker status in this year’s men’s Hundred tournament.
Batting all-rounder Will Jacks returns to both the T20 World Cup and white-ball squads, having missed the New Zealand tour last October due to injury. Additionally, Brydon Carse has been included in the ODI and T20I squads for Sri Lanka, while Zak Crawley makes a notable return to the ODI team for the first time since December 2023.
Conversely, Jamie Smith, Jordan Cox, and Saqib Mahmood have not been selected for either the T20 World Cup provisional squad or the Sri Lanka white-ball squads.
England's T20 World Cup journey will kick off on February 8 in Mumbai against Nepal, followed by matches against the West Indies, Bangladesh, and Italy in Kolkata.
