India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, has referred to Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent two-day visit to India as a pivotal moment in strengthening the enduring bond between New Delhi and Moscow. In an interview with journalist Rahul Kanwal, Jaishankar pointed out the historical constancy of India-Russia relations, contrasting them with other global partnerships that have experienced various ups and downs.
Jaishankar underscored that the objective of the visit was to develop aspects of the bilateral relationship that have not been fully explored. Key achievements included the signing of a mobility pact, talks concerning a collaborative venture in fertilizers, and a renewed emphasis on enhancing collaboration between the two nations.
On the topic of trade, Jaishankar remarked that India's commercial dealings with the United States remain central to strategic dialogues in Washington. He stressed the importance of equitable trade agreements that safeguard the interests of workers, farmers, and the middle class while ensuring fair negotiation terms.
Regarding India-China relations, Jaishankar observed that after the summit on October 24 between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, the border situation has stabilized. Patrolling has resumed, and peace remains in the border areas, laying a foundation for robust bilateral ties.
Jaishankar also addressed challenges stemming from Pakistan, indicating that several of India’s security concerns, such as terrorism and training camps, are closely tied to the actions of the Pakistani military. He reiterated India’s commitment to following democratic processes within neighboring countries and expressed hope for balanced regional relations.
The minister's comments highlight India’s approach to pragmatic diplomacy, which balances regional security challenges, global trade interests, and the necessity of stable international partnerships. His statements mirror India's ongoing efforts to fortify its relationships with key global powers, including Russia, the United States, and China, while cautiously navigating regional difficulties.
