New Delhi:
Sir Benjamin Slade, a 79-year-old British baronet, has renewed his distinctive search for a younger spouse—someone he hopes will give birth to a male heir to inherit his vast 1,300-acre estate. Once again, he is calling for applicants for what he openly refers to as a “role,” which comes with a yearly salary, housing, and a detailed set of personal requirements.
For decades, Slade has sought a successor. His past attempts have included advertisements in newspapers, online profiles, and appearances on television, each time drawing international attention for their eccentricity. Yet, despite the notoriety, he has failed to find a partner he deems fit to carry on his legacy.
This time, Slade has outlined a strict list of criteria for those not eligible. He has ruled out women who are Scorpios, or who read the Guardian, hail from countries beginning with the letter “I,” or even those whose national flags feature the color green. Conversely, candidates with a helicopter license or a background in law are favored.
The preferred age difference is notably distinct. Slade seeks a companion who is three to four decades younger, stressing that his main goal is to secure an heir for Maunsel House. He further mentions that applicants with a daughter “somewhere in between” would also be considered.
The financial terms are clear: a salary of £50,000 annually, along with full accommodation and meals. However, he adds that having personal wealth would be “advantageous,” explaining in his requirements that “a bit of private capital” is good, while “a substantial fortune” would be even better.
Despite his land ownership, Slade is reportedly experiencing cash flow challenges. There are discussions about selling the ancestral estate, which has been in his family since 1772, to a luxury hotel chain due to a severe drop in wedding venue business during the pandemic.
In preparation for the future, he has disclosed that he has a nine-month supply of frozen sperm stored, awaiting the “right partner.”
His unusual quest first gained global attention in 2008. Throughout the years, he has tried to settle down, fathering a daughter in 2021 via IVF with American poet Sahara Sunday Spain, though two intended weddings were called off. He was previously married to Pauline Myburgh, a relationship that ended in 1991 due to disagreements—famously, he once claimed her 17 cats were overwhelming.
Now that he has made his revival public again, Sir Benjamin Slade is hopeful that this time, his lengthy search for a “suitable bride” will reach a successful conclusion.
