The esteemed Anthony Geary, celebrated for his iconic role as Luke Spencer on the enduring soap opera General Hospital, has tragically passed away at the age of 78. Geary, who died on Sunday, December 14, due to complications following surgery, leaves behind a legacy that profoundly impacts daytime television. His husband, Claudio Gama, conveyed the heartbreaking news, stating, “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.”

First introducing the character of Luke Spencer in 1978, Geary became an integral part of General Hospital for nearly 40 years. His on-screen romance with Laura Collins, portrayed by Genie Francis, turned into one of the most cherished story arcs in soap opera history. Their wedding episode from 1981 attracted a remarkable 30 million viewers, a record-setting moment that established Luke and Laura as the ultimate pair in daytime television.

Although Geary stepped away from full-time duties on General Hospital in 2015, he returned sporadically, with his last role in 2017. Following his retirement, he relocated from Los Angeles to Amsterdam and tied the knot with Claudio Gama in 2020, marking a new phase in his personal journey.
