Air Transat Prepares for Flight Halt Ahead of Potential 72-Hour Pilot Strike

Air Transat Prepares for Flight Halt Ahead of Potential 72-Hour Pilot Strike

Post by : Mina Rahman

Air Transat revealed plans to gradually suspend its operations over the next three days, responding to a strike notice from its pilots' union that could commence on Wednesday morning.

The airline criticized the strike notice as “premature” while emphasizing positive developments in ongoing contract negotiations, including “generous” offerings to pilots. Both parties maintain that a resolution could be achieved before the strike takes effect.

Suspensions will commence on Monday, with complete cessation on Tuesday. Passengers currently abroad will be repatriated to avoid any passengers being stranded.

The pilots' union cited lengthy stalled negotiations as the reason for their strike mandate. Key issues include salary, benefits, work conditions, and job security as they seek to replace the existing contract from 2015.

Travelers have expressed worries regarding potential disruption, with some opting to book with alternative airlines. Federal mediators are observing the situation closely in hopes of facilitating swift talks.

Experts in air passenger rights indicated that travelers may qualify for compensation of up to $1,000 if their flights are canceled within 14 days prior to the strike.

Air Transat operates flights to 10 domestic destinations and 63 international locations, covering Europe, the Caribbean, the U.S. East Coast, South America, and North Africa.
