The UAE Food Bank, part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, has concluded an impressive Ramadan campaign, distributing 8.2 million meals under the initiative named “The Bank of Goodness in the Month of Goodness.”
This campaign aimed to support those in need by delivering a target of eight million meals across the UAE and beyond. It utilized five main initiatives: Charity Fridge, My Home Without Waste, Meer Al Khair, Zabeel Iftar, and Recycle, Relife, which focused on effective surplus food management.
Widespread Impact
Approximately 7.3 million individuals benefited from the campaign, reaching nearly 1.368 million families and over 500,000 workers. The initiative was bolstered by the support of 6,645 volunteers.
In addition, the food bank did not work alone; it partnered with 215 donor organizations and businesses, established 12 new collaborations, and conducted 80 awareness initiatives aimed at promoting food sustainability.
Environmental Benefits
The program successfully diverted 4.62 million surplus meals from ending up in landfills, mitigating over 4.693 million kg of carbon emissions, which corresponds to the planting of approximately 195,583 trees.
Further actions under the Recycle, Relife initiative saved 1.4 million kg of surplus food, and 72,973 kg of inedible food was repurposed into organic compost for agricultural use.
Highlights of Key Initiatives
Charity Fridge: Installation of 25 refrigerators in various communities and schools, serving 495,677 individuals.
Meer Al Khair: Food parcels successfully given to 6.8 million beneficiaries.
Zabeel Iftar: Provided meals to 5,000 workers during the holy month.
Additionally, the campaign collected surplus food from 87 hotels, demonstrating a notable increase compared to the previous year.
Education and Sustainable Practices
Initiatives such as My Home Without Waste played a key role in educating communities on reducing food waste and promoting mindful consumption practices. These efforts targeted families, homemakers, and workers, fostering long-lasting awareness.
Looking Ahead
Officials emphasized that this campaign reflects the UAE’s dedication to humanitarian endeavors, food security, and environmental sustainability. It aligns with global efforts to combat hunger, advocates responsible consumption, and strengthens community engagement.
The UAE Food Bank continues to broaden its partnerships and inspire volunteerism to create a sustainable framework for managing food surplus and minimizing waste.
