As Bollywood star Salman Khan celebrated his 60th birthday, a moving story about his personal kindness and long-standing support for cancer patients came into focus. The story was shared by well-known activist and cancer care advocate Viji Venkatesh, who spoke not about films or fame, but about compassion that changed lives.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Venkatesh looked back at her first meeting with Salman Khan at Tata Memorial Hospital on November 17, 2010. She recalled how the actor quietly gave her his phone number and told her to call him anytime someone needed help. Over the years, he kept that promise, often checking in and even making sure she always had his latest contact details.
One of the most touching moments she shared was about a 12-year-old girl who was scared and tired during chemotherapy. Salman personally called the child, encouraged her to continue treatment, and gave her strength when she needed it most. Today, that girl is 27 years old, healthy, and preparing for her public administration exams. For Venkatesh, this single story showed how one kind voice at the right time can change a life.
She also spoke about Salman’s visits to children in hospital wards. On one occasion, he cancelled a film shoot just to spend time with young cancer patients at KEM Hospital. These were not planned publicity visits. He went quietly, spoke to the children, smiled with them, and tried to make their day brighter.
Venkatesh shared many other examples of his kindness. Salman would reach out whenever he heard someone was battling cancer, whether it was a friend’s relative, a former worker from a film studio, or a neighbour who needed emotional support. In one deeply emotional gesture, he removed his own gold earring and sent it to a dying boy with bone cancer in Meerut, simply to bring him comfort.
In another case, after reading about a young girl who needed a bone marrow transplant, Salman offered to bring his brothers to get tested as potential donors. When a child from Indore could not visit a film set, Salman invited the child to his own home and spent over an hour talking and laughing, making the young patient feel valued and special.
Venkatesh ended her message by calling Salman Khan her “friend in cancer care for many years,” a title she felt mattered more than awards or box office numbers. Wishing him on his milestone birthday, she wrote words filled with warmth and gratitude, saying there is truly no one like him.
Salman Khan marked his 60th birthday on December 27 at his Panvel farmhouse. The celebration was small but warm, with close friends, family members, and a few well-known guests from sports and films. It was a calm evening with conversations, laughter, and a simple cake-cutting, reflecting the personal side of a man often seen only through the lens of stardom.
As these stories show, beyond the screen and spotlight, Salman Khan has quietly stood by many people during their hardest battles. On his 60th birthday, it was these acts of humanity that left the strongest impression.
