New Zealand Secures First Win Against India, Triumph by 50 Runs

Post by : Mina Rahman

In a thrilling encounter, New Zealand emerged victorious against India by 50 runs in the fourth T20 International held in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, marking their initial win in this five-match series.

The Kiwis set an aggressive tone from the get-go, with openers Tim Seifert and Devon Conway forging a solid 100-run partnership. Seifert’s explosive 62 runs coupled with Conway’s 44 helped New Zealand seize early dominance.

India looked to turn the tide when Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Conway during the ninth over. Jasprit Bumrah swiftly followed, taking a sharp catch to remove Rachin Ravindra, while Arshdeep Singh halted Seifert's innings, which lasted just 36 balls and featured three sixes. Kuldeep continued to shine, sending Glenn Phillips back for 24 runs.

Despite losing wickets in crucial moments, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell sparked a late surge, finishing with an unbeaten 39 from a brisk 18 deliveries, pushing the team's total to a daunting 215 for 7.

Chasing this formidable target, India encountered early setbacks. In light of the series lead, Ishan Kishan was rested due to a minor injury, prompting changes in the batting lineup. Unfortunately, the adjustments didn’t pay off, with Abhishek Sharma falling on the very first ball and captain Suryakumar Yadav also dismissed inexpensively.

Rinku Singh made attempts to stabilize the innings with a steady 39 runs, yet consistent wickets left India in a tough spot. Mitchell Santner, the New Zealand captain, shone with the ball, claiming 3 for 26, skillfully controlling the game’s pace.

Shivam Dube's late surge, scoring a sensational 65 off just 23 balls with seven sixes, ignited fleeting hopes for India. However, his unfortunate run-out—triggered by a deflection off Matt Henry—proved crucial. Ultimately, India was bowled out for 165 in just 18.4 overs.

Despite the loss, India retains a series lead of 3-1, with the final T20 match scheduled in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
