In a delightful moment from their recent summit, Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung took to the drums, performing popular K-pop tracks. The charming jam session, shared by the Japanese Prime Minister’s office, featured the two leaders enjoying hits from iconic groups like BTS and K-pop Demon Hunters.
Known for her passion for drumming and heavy metal, Prime Minister Takaichi commended President Lee for swiftly grasping the rhythm. She noted that Lee managed to pick up the beats within minutes, reflecting the light-hearted camaraderie between the two. Despite their varying styles, both leaders beamed as they attempted to play together, symbolizing their aspiration for a robust and future-oriented alliance.
President Lee expressed his enthusiasm about the experience on social media, highlighting positive prospects for their burgeoning friendship. He remarked that while their drumming styles differed, they endeavored to align their beats and pledged to unite in creating a stronger bond between their nations.
This cheerful exchange aligns with ongoing efforts to mend relations between Japan and South Korea, which have faced challenges historically. During the summit, Takaichi and Lee also deliberated on enhancing security and economic collaboration to meet escalating regional issues in East Asia. Their discussions underscored a commitment to “shuttle diplomacy,” with plans for the Prime Minister to visit South Korea soon to further their dialogue.
They also took time to visit the historic Horyuji Temple in Nara, Japan – Prime Minister Takaichi's hometown. This cultural engagement emphasized the burgeoning goodwill and friendship between the two leaders.
Overall, this drum session transcended mere entertainment; it emerged as a profound symbol of unity and collaboration as Japan and South Korea aim to enhance their relationship and confront regional challenges with renewed vigor and hope.
