Antoine Semenyo Shines Brightly with Two Goals in Manchester City Debut

Post by : Mina Rahman

Antoine Semenyo has settled in seamlessly at Manchester City, making his presence felt by netting in both his initial matches for the club.

The Ghanaian striker, acquired from Bournemouth for £65 million, was pivotal in their 2-0 victory against Newcastle in the opening leg of the League Cup semi-final. His introduction has infused the squad with new energy, winning the admiration of both fans and teammates.

Earlier, Semenyo showcased his talent in a colossal 10-1 victory over Exeter in the FA Cup. During the Newcastle clash, a second goal of his was disallowed due to a prolonged VAR review, adding to the team's frustration.

Reflecting on his move to City, Semenyo remarked, “The atmosphere here is fantastic. Everyone is driven and dedicated to winning. Joining this group has made me feel at home and significantly boosted my confidence.”

He continued, “It’s been a hectic beginning, but I’m learning quickly and cherishing every moment on the field. I'm carrying the self-assurance from my time at Bournemouth and simply playing joyfully.”

Towards the match's end, Rayan Cherki netted another goal, consolidating City's lead over Newcastle deep into stoppage time following the VAR review.

Despite their strong showing, City players displayed disappointment over the disallowed goal and past refereeing decisions. Pep Guardiola pointed out the two penalties that weren't awarded during their prior Premier League setback against Newcastle, stirring further frustration.

City's captain, Bernardo Silva, encapsulated the mood, stating, “We ought to have been up 3-0, but such decisions are part of the game, especially here. It’s disheartening, yet we must remain focused and persevere.”

With Semenyo making an immediate impact and a positive team spirit, Manchester City is poised to advance further in the competition.
