Makkah and Madinah Harams Witness Record Crowds During Ramadan

Post by : Saif Nasser

The holy mosques of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah have reached full capacity during the blessed month of Ramadan. Millions of Muslims from around the world have traveled to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah and offer special Ramadan prayers.

Authorities reported that both Harams are witnessing one of the highest attendance levels in recent years. Worshippers filled the prayer halls, courtyards, and surrounding areas, especially during Taraweeh and Qiyam-ul-Layl prayers. The atmosphere has been described as deeply spiritual, with long rows of believers standing shoulder to shoulder in devotion.

At Masjid al-Haram, the area around the Holy Kaaba has been packed throughout the day and night. Pilgrims continue to perform Tawaf in large numbers, moving in organized circles around the Kaaba. Officials have implemented crowd management plans to ensure safety and smooth movement. Special teams have been deployed to guide pilgrims and prevent overcrowding in sensitive areas.

In Madinah, Al-Masjid an-Nabawi has also seen a massive turnout. Worshippers gathered in large numbers to pray near the Prophet’s Mosque and visit the Rawdah area. Security personnel and volunteers have worked continuously to manage entry and exit points, especially during peak prayer times.

Saudi authorities increased operational capacity during Ramadan by expanding prayer spaces, improving transportation services, and strengthening health and emergency facilities. Thousands of workers and volunteers are on duty daily to provide water, meals for iftar, and medical assistance when needed.

Public safety measures have also been reinforced. Surveillance systems, crowd control barriers, and digital guidance tools have been used to handle the heavy flow of visitors. Officials stated that coordination between different government departments has played a key role in maintaining order.

Many pilgrims expressed gratitude for the smooth arrangements despite the large crowds. Visitors from various countries shared that performing prayers in the holy mosques during Ramadan is a lifelong dream. The spiritual environment, especially during the last ten nights of Ramadan, has drawn even larger numbers seeking blessings and forgiveness.

Experts say that such large gatherings reflect the strong desire of Muslims worldwide to observe Ramadan in the two holiest sites in Islam. However, they also highlight the importance of planning and discipline to ensure everyone’s safety.

Authorities have advised worshippers to follow official instructions, use designated prayer areas, and avoid peak hours when possible. Health guidelines remain in place to protect visitors, especially elderly pilgrims.

As Ramadan continues, both holy mosques are expected to remain at full capacity, particularly during the final nights leading up to Eid. Officials say preparations are ongoing to manage the anticipated increase in attendance.
