Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran’s former shah, was splashed with red liquid during a protest in Berlin, in an incident that has drawn global attention.
The event took place shortly after Pahlavi attended a press briefing where he spoke about Iran’s political situation and criticized ongoing diplomatic efforts with the current Iranian government. As he exited the venue, a man approached from behind and threw a red-colored liquid at him, hitting his back and neck area.
Authorities quickly responded to the incident. Security personnel and police detained the suspect on the spot. Officials later stated that the substance appeared to be tomato juice or a similar harmless liquid. Despite the sudden attack, Pahlavi remained calm and continued walking before leaving the scene in a vehicle. He was not injured.
The protest is believed to be linked to strong political disagreements surrounding Iran’s future. Pahlavi has been actively calling for international support for political change in Iran and has criticized recent ceasefire efforts, arguing that they may not lead to real reform.
During his visit to Berlin, Pahlavi aimed to gather support from European leaders and highlight human rights concerns in Iran. However, he did not hold official meetings with the German government, and his visit remained largely informal.
The incident has highlighted the deep divisions among different groups regarding Iran’s leadership and future direction. While Pahlavi has supporters who see him as a symbol of change, others strongly oppose his views, leading to visible protests even outside Iran.
Security in the area was tightened following the incident, and authorities continue to monitor the situation. The event has once again shown how political tensions related to Iran are being expressed on an international stage.
