Based in the UAE, SpaceTech company Space42 has successfully deployed three new satellites—Foresight-3, Foresight-4, and Foresight-5—a significant advancement for its Earth Observation (EO) constellation.
The addition of these satellites brings the Foresight network to a total of five Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites, allowing for uninterrupted Earth observation. This expanded network supplies high-quality geospatial data and intelligence to global governments, industries, and partners.
These satellites were developed in collaboration with Finland's ICEYE, part of an initiative focused on enhancing local capabilities and fostering a sustainable supply chain. Critical integration and testing operations took place at Space42’s Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) facility in Abu Dhabi, thereby strengthening the UAE's expertise in space technology.
Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space42, stated that the launch of Foresight-3, Foresight-4, and Foresight-5 significantly boosts the company's capacity to offer sovereign Earth observation services with improved speed and dependability. He emphasized that this partnership with ICEYE and successful operations at the Abu Dhabi facility have elevated national capabilities and positioned the firm competitively in global markets.
Operating in mid-inclined low Earth orbit, the new satellites enhance monitoring capabilities over key regions where over 90% of the world's population resides. The Foresight satellites supply SAR imagery to Space42’s advanced geospatial intelligence platform, GIQ, transforming raw satellite data into actionable insights almost instantly.
By utilizing complementary orbital paths, the constellation ensures consistent performance, day and night. With a capability to produce high-resolution imagery up to 25 centimeters, it can gather data in all weather conditions, enabling precise detection of minor changes on the Earth's surface.
Space42 claims that the GIQ platform aids organizations in enhancing operational efficiency by converting satellite data into actionable intelligence. This can reduce emergency response times by nearly 90%, cut predictive maintenance costs by up to 30%, and diminish operational inefficiencies by approximately 25%.
The global appetite for Earth Observation services is on the rise as nations and businesses increasingly depend on geospatial intelligence for risk management, operational strategies, environmental monitoring, and security. Forecasts suggest Earth Observation insights could generate over USD 700 billion in economic benefits by 2030, while also aiding emission reductions across various sectors.
The Foresight constellation's expansion aligns with the UAE’s National Space Strategy 2030, underlining the country’s aim to be a frontrunner in providing advanced Earth Observation capabilities. By investing in sovereign space initiatives, AI, and local production, the UAE is reinforcing its standing in the dynamic global space sector.
