Red Bull’s two Formula One teams have announced a joint event to showcase their 2026 cars in Detroit, USA, scheduled for January 2026. This unveiling celebrates the launch of their new engine partnership with American manufacturer Ford. Both Red Bull Racing and the newly designated Racing Bulls will present their 2026 Formula One vehicles together on January 15. This occasion marks a pivotal moment for Red Bull, ushering in a new era with Ford as their engine supplier.

The Detroit event is set just prior to the formal pre-season testing for the 2026 Formula One season, which is to take place behind closed doors at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya from January 26 to January 30. By disclosing their launch date early, Red Bull positions itself as the first team to announce its schedule ahead of the upcoming season, reflecting their confidence and preparedness for the evolving challenges of the sport.

Currently, Red Bull’s cars utilize Honda engines, but this collaboration will conclude after the 2025 season, as Honda shifts its focus to solely supplying Aston Martin. Starting in 2026, Red Bull will race with the new Red Bull Ford Powertrains, marking Ford's return as an official power unit manufacturer. This partnership is expected to drive innovations and enhance the competitiveness of Red Bull’s racing initiatives.

Team principal Laurent Mekies characterized this partnership as “a bold step toward the future,” emphasizing that it signifies extensive planning and collaboration between Red Bull and Ford aimed at establishing a robust, long-term alliance. The partnership will showcase advanced engine technologies designed to comply with Formula One’s forthcoming regulations centered on hybrid power and sustainable fuels.

Ford CEO Jim Farley shared his enthusiasm about the imminent launch and its significance for both the motorsport segment and the company’s technological advancements. He noted, “Since we declared our return to F1 with Red Bull, our team has been tirelessly preparing for 2026. Yet, this extends beyond racing.” Farley articulated that Ford aims to implement lessons learned in Formula One to elevate their road cars, asserting, “What we learn with Red Bull will shape future technologies.”

This move by Ford is part of a larger trend showcasing increasing American influence within Formula One. Next season, General Motors will debut a Cadillac-supported team, while Ferrari-powered Haas continues to represent the U.S. on the grid. With three American Grands Prix—Austin, Miami, and Las Vegas—Formula One’s presence in the U.S. is swiftly expanding, and the choice of Detroit as the launch venue underscores Ford’s legacy and America’s growing stake in the global F1 landscape.

Red Bull Racing enters this new chapter following a string of remarkable successes, having clinched four consecutive drivers’ titles with Max Verstappen. The team’s 2025 campaign has three races remaining, culminating in Abu Dhabi on December 7. As reigning champions, Red Bull’s early commitment to 2026 signifies their ambition to maintain a winning trajectory under the newly established power unit regulations.

In 2023, Red Bull and their sister team, formerly AlphaTauri, launched their vehicles in New York City. This year, all ten Formula One teams participated in a collective event at London’s O2 Arena to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Formula One World Championship. The upcoming Detroit event continues this pattern of high-profile global launches designed to foster closer ties between Formula One and fans in essential markets.

The upcoming 2026 Formula One season will introduce new engine regulations emphasizing efficiency, hybrid technology, and sustainable fuels. Red Bull Ford Powertrains will debut as an independent power unit manufacturer, marking a significant transformation for both Red Bull and Ford, who aim to merge racing excellence with environmentally responsible innovations. The Detroit event will symbolize the commencement of this journey, intertwining engineering brilliance with global reach.

For both entities, this partnership represents a significant milestone: Ford makes its return to Formula One after over two decades, while Red Bull shifts to developing its own powertrains with a trusted global partner. The collaboration not only enhances Red Bull’s competitive edge but also strengthens Formula One’s relationship with American fans and manufacturers. The January 2026 launch in Detroit will mark a historic occasion, heralding a new chapter for both Red Bull, Ford, and the sport at large.
