To celebrate World Blood Donor Day on June 14, Dubai Health thanked the community for their support in the life-saving campaign called ‘My Blood, for My Country’. The campaign, which started in 2012, has collected more than 500,000 units of blood from over 300,000 donors across 150 nationalities.

This campaign is a team effort by Dubai Health, Al Ameen Service, Dubai Health Authority (DHA), and the Emarat Al Youm newspaper. Over the last 13 years, it has helped save thousands of lives by making sure hospitals always have enough blood for patients.

At a special event, 43 partners were honored. These included 11 government bodies, 10 private companies and charities, and 22 individual donors. These partners have supported the campaign’s mission to spread a culture of voluntary blood donation across the UAE.

Youth Lead the Way

One big highlight this year is that young people between 18 and 30 years old made up 41% of donors in 2024. Also, 54% of people who donated this year were doing it for the first time. This shows how more young people are stepping up to help others.

Dr. Muna Tahlak, Chief Medical Officer at Dubai Health, said that the campaign’s success was only possible because of the community’s strong support. She thanked everyone who donated and urged more people to continue giving blood.

A National Mission to Help Others

The goal of the campaign is to make blood donation a national responsibility and a humanitarian act. It also focuses on encouraging donations from people with rare blood types and first-time donors. Public and private organizations are asked to support and organize blood drives regularly.

Omar Al Falasi, General Supervisor at Al Ameen Service, said that this campaign is not just about giving blood. It’s also about spreading kindness, helping others, and building a healthy community. He shared that blood donation can even help prevent certain health issues for donors and brings people together.

Setting an Example in the Region

Mona Bajman, CEO of Shared Support Services at DHA, said that the campaign has become a model of success for long-term community work. She praised the teamwork between government, private groups, and everyday people that made the campaign so impactful.

She also said the campaign has made a real difference by promoting a culture of giving and helping raise health standards across the country. Thanks to the rising number of donors and growing support, the campaign is now one of the leading efforts of its kind.

Media’s Powerful Role

Ibrahim Shukrallah, Editor-in-Chief of Emarat Al Youm, said the newspaper is proud to be part of this national campaign. For over a decade, they have used print and digital media to spread the message and get more people involved.

He added that the newspaper feels it is both a professional duty and a human responsibility to support the cause. Honoring donors is a way of saying “thank you” and inspiring more people to join in. He also said that media will continue playing a key role in such campaigns that change lives.

This campaign has proven that when people come together to support a good cause, big changes can happen. The ‘My Blood, for My Country’ campaign is not just about giving blood — it’s about saving lives, spreading kindness, and building a caring community for all.
