Bangladesh's Miraz Supports Mosaddek's Return Ahead of ODI Series

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Leading the Bangladesh ODI team, Mehidy Hasan Miraz vocalizes his unwavering support for Mosaddek Hossain's return to the national squad, emphasizing the all-rounder’s excellent recent form in domestic leagues.

Reinstated in the ODI lineup after a four-year hiatus, Mosaddek joins the 15-member squad for the first two matches against Australia. The 30-year-old's domestic performance has been notable, amassing 310 runs from six innings at an impressive average of 77.50 and a strike rate of 129.17. His contributions also include 12 wickets over seven innings, revealing his dual capability on the field.

Miraz affirmed the legitimacy of Mosaddek's selection, noting, "He has been consistently strong in domestic cricket for several years and is now in peak form. This is his moment to return to the national setup." He remarked that should Mosaddek fulfill his designated role, it will substantially enhance the team's potential.

No Rivalry Between Miraz and Mosaddek

Miraz addressed rumors regarding competition between himself and Mosaddek for spots in the lineup, clarifying that both players have partnered on the field in numerous formats, including the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

He distinguished their roles, categorizing himself as a bowling all-rounder while Mosaddek serves as a batting all-rounder. Miraz suggested that the success of Mosaddek would be a boon for both him and the team as a unit.

Critical Sixth Bowler Option

Highlighting Mosaddek’s off-spin capabilities, Miraz remarked on the strategic advantage of having an additional bowling option. This flexibility could prove essential in tight ODI matches, especially if a primary bowler struggles.

He elaborated that Mosaddek’s talent has been shown in domestic games, asserting that he can contribute significantly if he bowls with precision.

Room for Growth for Rishad Hossain

Miraz also discussed the development path for leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, who has garnered confidence from successes in domestic and international formats, notably a strong showing in the Big Bash League.

However, Miraz pointed out that adapting to ODI play still presents challenges for Rishad. T20 and ODI require distinctive strategies, and while there is faith in Rishad’s abilities, he must enhance his skills in managing game situations and maintaining a low run rate.

He expressed that consistent opportunities and focused improvements could elevate Rishad to a pivotal role within Bangladesh's bowling ranks.

Bangladesh Positively Prepared Against Australia

Upcoming is a three-match ODI series for Bangladesh against Australia, commencing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Australia arrives without several key players due to injuries, including Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood. With regular captain Mitchell Marsh ruled out due to an ankle issue, Josh Inglis is set to lead the squad in their absence.

Regardless of their diminished lineup, Miraz cautioned against underestimating Australia, reiterating their prowess as a formidable team. He underscored Bangladesh's commitment to performing at their best and achieving match victories.

The captain affirmed that the team is brimming with confidence, bolstered by impressive recent home series wins, including those against New Zealand and Pakistan. Miraz views this series as a significant opportunity to capitalize on home advantage, as Bangladesh finishes the year strongly against a respected opponent.
