Confirmed Sighting of Malayan Tiger Near Gua Musang

Post by : Shakul

The Malaysian Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) has confirmed a recent sighting of a Malayan tiger near the Sungai Relai Bridge in Gua Musang, Kelantan. This confirmation followed the circulation of a video on social media that depicted the tiger crossing through the area, igniting interest among local residents and wildlife conservationists.

Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim, the Director-General of Perhilitan, reported that wildlife officers from the Gua Musang district promptly launched an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that the tiger was merely traversing the region before retreating to its natural habitat within the adjacent forest.

Authorities executed thorough inspections at the sighting site; however, no additional evidence of the tiger was discovered during the check. Officials also confirmed that there were no prior complaints or reports of disturbances from local inhabitants concerning the incident.

This sighting underscores the presence of the critically endangered Malayan tiger, recognized as one of the world’s rarest big cats. Conservationists have long cautioned that habitat fragmentation and human encroachment could inadvertently drive wildlife closer to populated areas.

Perhilitan advises the public to stay calm and refrain from approaching or disturbing wild animals if seen. Wildlife specialists highlight that interactions with large predators can pose risks and disrupt their natural behaviors.

Residents who encounter wildlife are encouraged to report sightings immediately to Perhilitan via its official hotline. Timely notifications allow authorities to track animal movements and implement measures to ensure the safety of both citizens and wildlife.

Officials have committed to ongoing monitoring activities in the area as part of their conservation strategies. The department reaffirms its dedication to protecting the Malayan tiger population while prioritizing the safety of communities residing near forested regions in Kelantan and across Malaysia.
