India Secures Historic Test Win Over Afghanistan by Innings and 300 Runs

Post by : Shakul

In a spectacular display of cricket, India triumphed over Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test in New Chandigarh, marking the country's largest victory by innings in Test history. Concluding on the third day, India's bowlers utterly dominated the Afghan batting order throughout the match.

The standout performer was debutant spinner Manav Suthar, impressively securing seven wickets in his first Test outing. He took six wickets in the first innings and followed up with one in the second, wrapping up with match figures of 7 for 62, crucial in ensuring India's comfortable grip on the match.

Earlier, India declared their first innings at a formidable 564 for 8, thanks to strong contributions from their entire batting order. Afghanistan faltered in their response, folding for just 152 runs in their first innings, allowing India to claim a substantial lead of 412 runs and force the visitors to bat again.

Rahmat Shah stood out for Afghanistan, scoring a resilient 60 runs which marked the inaugural Test fifty for an Afghan player against India. Unfortunately, he lacked sufficient support from his teammates, leading to a flurry of dismissals.

In their second innings, Afghanistan began with a promising opening partnership spearheaded by Sediqullah Atal. However, India's spinners quickly regained control, with Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav combining for seven wickets that obliterated the middle and lower orders, putting an end to any hopes of recovery.

Washington Sundar tallied four wickets, and Kuldeep Yadav picked up three vital wickets. Afghanistan crumbled from a relatively stable position to a mere 112 runs, underscoring India's total command with both bat and ball.

This victory is another monumental achievement for Indian cricket, showcasing the team's extensive bowling talent. Manav Suthar’s debut bodes well for India’s future spin options as they gear up for upcoming international contests.
