Gaza Strikes Leave Dozens Dead Families Trapped in Rubble

Post by :

At least 17 people have been rescued after a series of airstrikes in Gaza, but rescue teams are still working to reach many more. Family members and volunteers are digging through rubble by hand, fearing that as many as 50 people might still be trapped under the debris.

One Palestinian family made a desperate plea for help, saying they could hear voices from under the collapsed buildings. “Please help us,” one relative cried. “Our loved ones are buried alive. We hear their screams, but we cannot reach them.”

The family also reported that Israeli drones are targeting people trying to rescue those trapped. “Whenever we try to reach them, the drones open fire. Out of every five rescuers, four are killed, and only one survives,” he said.

Videos shared online show casualties being carried away in small vehicles, surrounded by people. One video shows a mother screaming in grief, saying she lost all her children during the attacks in the Sabra area, south of Gaza City.

Intense airstrikes also hit other areas, including the Shati refugee camp in western Gaza City and the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood in the southwest. Reports said buildings, including the Laval Tower in the Nasr district and a nearby house, were also attacked.

In another attack, seven Palestinians, including four children, were killed in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. The strike reportedly took place near a clinic that provides services for Palestinian refugees.

Since early Sunday, medical sources say that at least 68 people have died due to Israeli attacks across Gaza. The Ministry of Health reported that since the start of the war in October 2023, over 65,000 people have been killed and more than 166,000 injured. Starvation and lack of food due to blockades have caused at least four more deaths in the last day, bringing the total deaths from famine to 440, including 147 children.

The Israeli military has continued destroying buildings to forcibly move Palestinians from their homes, aiming to take control of Gaza City. Families living in the area say they cannot leave their shelters safely because drones and explosive devices block roads and camps. Thick smoke fills the air, making movement difficult.

Officials estimate that over 450,000 people have been displaced since early September, though Gaza authorities say fewer than 300,000 have left, with around 900,000 still in the city.

The Israeli military said that three divisions are leading a ground invasion in Gaza City and northern Gaza, while another division operates in Khan Younis in the south. They claimed their soldiers have killed “many terrorists planning attacks” in the last 24 hours.

World leaders have reacted to the situation. Pope Leo called the forced displacement of civilians unacceptable, stating that “no future can be built on violence, forced exile, and revenge.”

Meanwhile, Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal officially recognized Palestinian statehood just two days before the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will discuss Palestinian sovereignty after decades of occupation. The Palestinian Foreign Minister welcomed the recognition, saying Israel’s attacks are a “systematic assault on humanity, aiming to erase Palestinian culture and existence.”

The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen, with families trapped, children injured, and thousands displaced. Rescue operations are ongoing despite heavy bombardments, and many residents are living in fear for their lives as the conflict intensifies.
