Tropical Storm Cristina Issues Alerts Across Central America

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

On Monday, Tropical Storm Cristina developed in the Pacific Ocean near Nicaragua, leading to weather alerts for several regions in Central America.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) from Miami reports Cristina is generating maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph). The storm is situated approximately 105 miles (170 kilometers) west-northwest of Managua, Nicaragua, and around 125 miles (200 kilometers) southeast of San Salvador, El Salvador.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for coastal zones from Puerto Sandino in Nicaragua to the Guatemala-El Salvador border. Local authorities are monitoring the storm's progress through the eastern Pacific area.

Forecasts predict significant rainfall from Cristina across Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala until Thursday. Rainfall amounts are expected to range between 4 to 8 inches, with some isolated areas potentially receiving up to 12 inches (30 centimeters).

The anticipated heavy rainfall raises concerns about flash flooding, river floods, and landslides, especially in mountainous and vulnerable locations.

Cristina represents the second tropical storm affecting the Eastern Pacific, while Tropical Storm Boris continues to churn off Mexico's coast with landfall anticipated on Tuesday.

Residents in the impacted regions are encouraged to stay tuned to official weather updates and adhere to local authorities' instructions.
