On Thursday, Abu Dhabi honored its People of Determination during a distinguished sporting event, as Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Chairman of the UAE Sailing and Modern Rowing Federation, celebrated the achievements of the winners at the Marine Sports Festival. This occasion spotlighted the UAE's unwavering commitment to providing all athletes with the chance to engage in competitive sports.
Organised by the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club in partnership with the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, and with backing from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the event showcased seamless coordination and inclusivity, allowing athletes to display their marine sports talents.
The festival included exhilarating competitions in sailing and kayaking. Remarkably skilled, the athletes of determination captivated the audience with their resilience and tenacity, as over 50 participants demonstrated exceptional commitment and sportsmanship. Each contestant shone brightly, turning the event into a vibrant celebration of talent and fortitude.
Attendees of the award ceremony included Ahmed Salem Al Shamsi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Club for People of Determination; Rashid Al Falahi, Director of Support Services at Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club; and Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Director of Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Academy. Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan personally acknowledged the winners for their dedicated efforts.
Khalifa Al Suwaidi remarked that the festival's organisation underscores the UAE’s enduring support for People of Determination. He noted that fostering an inclusive sports environment not only showcases athletes' abilities but also encourages them to aim for greater achievements, aligning with ongoing initiatives to integrate People of Determination into diverse sports activities nationwide.
The festival also placed a strong emphasis on skill enhancement, providing specialised marine sports programs to participants, which empowered them to refine their techniques and boost creativity in competitive contexts. This initiative aims to solidify the presence of People of Determination on the national and international sports stage.
Many participants expressed joy and gratitude for being part of the festival, stating that such events create meaningful opportunities for skill improvement, confidence building, and recognition. The festival fostered a spirit of friendship, teamwork, and mutual encouragement among the athletes.
