At least 41 Palestinians were killed across Gaza on Sunday by gunfire and airstrikes from Zionist forces, according to local health workers. Among those killed were five people who were near two food aid sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is supported by the US and Zionists.
Doctors at Al-Awda Hospital, located in central Gaza, said three people died and many were injured after being shot while they were trying to reach a GHF aid site near the Netzarim corridor. Two more people were killed while heading toward another GHF aid site in Rafah, a city in southern Gaza.
In Beit Lahiya, a town in northern Gaza, seven people died in an airstrike, medics said. Another airstrike hit a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp, located in the central part of Gaza, killing at least 11 people. The rest of the deaths happened in different airstrikes across the southern areas of Gaza.
The GHF started giving out food packages at the end of May, after a three-month total blockade was partially lifted. Since then, many Palestinians have been killed in shootings while trying to get food from these aid centers.
In a statement, GHF said it restarted food deliveries on Sunday and gave out over two million meals at its three main sites without problems. However, the United Nations has criticized this new system of giving out food. The UN says it's not safe, not fair, and does not follow basic rules of humanitarian aid.
Gaza's health ministry said on Saturday that since the GHF started working in Gaza, more than 300 people have been killed and over 2,600 injured while trying to get food from aid sites.
Munir Al-Bursh, a top official from Gaza’s health ministry, said on social media that the food being given under constant attacks is not true help. “These are not aid deliveries, they are traps for the poor and hungry,” he said. “Food given under gunfire is not aid—it’s an insult,” he added.
So far, the Zionist military campaign in Gaza has killed nearly 55,000 people, most of them civilians. Much of Gaza has been destroyed, and over two million people are now displaced from their homes. Many are struggling with hunger, and malnutrition is a growing problem.
