Taylor Swift has made a big surprise announcement for her fans. She just shared that her twelfth studio album will be called “The Life of a Showgirl.” The news came right after a countdown clock on her website hit zero — at exactly 12:12 a.m. on Tuesday.

Even though she didn’t say when the album will be released, she did mention that vinyl copies would begin shipping before October 13.

For a while, fans had been guessing that something big was coming. Just the day before, Taylor’s official team — known as Taylor Nation — posted a slideshow on TikTok. It showed 12 orange-themed photos of Taylor, all with the caption:
“Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’”
In every picture, Taylor was wearing orange clothes, and this made fans even more curious.

There’s more exciting news for collectors and longtime fans. Taylor’s team is releasing a special edition vinyl that’s a bright glittery orange color. The version is called “Portofino orange glitter.” There will also be a cassette version of the album available for preorder soon.

Just minutes before Taylor made her announcement, the New Heights podcast posted a teaser image. This podcast is hosted by Taylor’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason Kelce. The teaser photo had an orange theme and showed a shadowy figure. Many fans believed the mystery figure could be Taylor, adding more excitement.

Then, early Tuesday morning, Taylor gave another hint that she’d be on the podcast. A short video showed her opening a briefcase and pulling out the album. But the album cover was blurred, which added mystery and got fans even more excited.

“The Life of a Showgirl” is Taylor’s newest project after her last album, The Tortured Poets Department. That album was announced at the 2024 Grammy Awards and came out while she was still performing her record-breaking Eras Tour.

That tour was a huge success. It earned more than $2.2 billion and visited shows on five different continents. The Eras Tour became the highest-earning tour in music history.

But there’s another reason why this new album is special. Earlier this year, Taylor finally got back ownership of her full music catalog. Her earlier songs, which were first released under Big Machine Records, had been owned by a company called Shamrock Capital. Taylor had spent years trying to get her music back — and in May, she finally succeeded.

In addition to her new music, Taylor has also been re-recording her older albums. This project started because she wanted to own the rights to her old songs again. She called the new versions “Taylor’s Version” to show that they belong to her now.

These re-recorded albums are not just copies — they often include new songs that didn’t make it onto the original albums, plus hidden messages and creative artwork that fans love exploring.

  • So far, Taylor has re-released four of her old albums:
  • Fearless (Taylor’s Version) – released in 2021
  • Red (Taylor’s Version) – released in 2021
  • 1989 (Taylor’s Version) – released in 2023
  • Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) – released in 2023

All four of these albums hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Thanks to them, Taylor now holds the record for the most No. 1 albums ever by a female artist.
